Tablescapes for Autumn Jubilee

This really is my favorite time of the year. I love the rich colors of Autumn, the gold and burgundy with rust and deep evergreen speak to me. This week, the color at our home reached its peak, with glorious golds and orange, rust and a little bit of deep red. The oaks and maples are showing brilliant red and orange, while the tulip poplars are right behind with a bright yellow gold.

Then, this stunning sweetgum in the back a little way up the mountain burst into brilliant orange in the morning sunlight a few days later. I’ll have more of our beautiful fall color for you this coming week, but for now, let’s go inside and set the table for a hot meal on a cool day.

Fall tablescapes mean getting out the fall theme dishware like pumpkins and leaves. I know I have more fall-theme dishes than the average person, but I just cannot help myself, LOL! So, out it comes so you can enjoy it with me. The challenge is to use only what I already have in a way that is new. Believe it or not, this is getting harder!

The table begins with a burgundy tablecloth, topped with my Maple Leaves topper in the center. You cannot see much of it, but this was on Moda Bake Shop some years ago. See my tutorial Maple Star Table Topper on Moda Bake Shop for the tutorial and downloadable pdf.

In the middle, I placed a pumpkin shaped cookie jar, and surrounded it with silk leaves. On each end, I put a crackle glass candle holder with unscented tea lights. Fairly simple for now, we’ll add to it in a bit.

Large rust color chargers are stacked with gold square dinner plates and my favorite fall leaf salad plates. I use these from mid-September all the way through Thanksgiving.

I add my pumpkin bowls to the setting. I had six of these, but last year I broke two of them at once when I dropped the box they were packed in. I was so mad at myself! I still have four, and that is enough for this table. Individual salt and pepper shakers are at the top and crystal water glasses are added on the right.

I love the look of gold flatware with fall colors, so that set comes out now. I put gold spoons in the pumpkin bowls for soup. Gold napkins are held in gold rings with brown beads.

So, there we are, a simple table for a fall meal.

Now, into October, we are closing in on Halloween, so let’s make some additions to the fall table. I pick up the leaf plates and replace them with a Halloween set. Around the pumpkin cookie jar I place two sill sitters and a few pumpkins. This one says “Spooky”. The plates all have different motifs, this one is a dog and some owls with bats flying over the moon.

The other sill sitter says “Boo”. The plate is a black cat on a pumpkin.

A couple of happy pumpkins complete the centerpiece. On the plate, a witch rides a broom while the smiling moon watches.

This one is my favorite, a happy jack-o-lantern patch.

In a jiffy, my basic fall table becomes Halloween. For Thanksgiving, I’ll pick up the Halloween items, and replace them with my turkey salad plates and some ceramic turkeys or my pilgrims. So, essentially one basic tablescape becomes three different months to enjoy meals. I’ll show you the November edition next month. New to me: Using solids, keeping track of the shade names has become difficult especially since the selvage edges are plain. Now, when I buy new yardage, I use a fine-point marker to lightly write the brand and color along the selvage in several spots.
    Such a helpful tip!

I watched the video on how to get over bulky seams. I forget to use the button on my pressure foot, so was glad for the reminder.

  3. Keisha Baynard

I printed out the Give Thanks Tabletop project. I am going to try thank you put on my table for Thanksgiving.

I love those Halloween plates – so cute and fun! I’ve visited All People Quilt many times and always find beautiful projects to add to the never ending project list. They show some cute fall kitchen towels with embroidery and prairie points that I’d really love to try. Thank you for a fun month of projects and visiting new places 🙂

Carole, your table always looks so inviting! All People Quilt have so many patterns! I love making bags but never thought of using orphan blocks! I see many bags in my future since I have many orphan blocks just waiting for homes!

Tried to comment and enter give away– failed, so trying again.
Love your blog. Enjoyed log cabin patterns at APQ.

  8. You have the most fun dishes, Carole! So fun to be able to change them up for fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. On the All People Quilt website, I liked the tutorial for making reusable sandwich and snack bags. I’d like to make some of those!

  9. Lovely tablescape Carole! I know what you mean about trying to come up with a new look with things you already have, that’s a challenge and part of the fun! Your Halloween plates are so cute! On to November!

I looked at the Christmas projects and found a couple of pillow patterns that I thiught I could make.
I love all your tablescapes and since I will be hosting Thanksgiving this year I will use some of your ideas!
    Love your blog!

thanks for link. Will be going back to read the other blogs on “how to hints”. Read about joining batting and machine sewing binding. Did not know there was special presser foots for each task.

  12. First of all, your views are dazzling — don’t hills make a world of difference in looking at color? All that texture from the different elevations. Love it!

And I also love your tables — those Halloween plates are darling. And the leaves are perfect. It’s a fun time to do a table — and to welcome people to that table. Happy week to come!

The fall tablescapes look so inviting, unfortunately I rarely have a need to dress up the table. But they are beautiful

  14. Debbie Miller

Your table scapes are also so pretty and inviting! Your storage space for all the accessories must be amazing. I like the Scrap Lab Table Runner and Pumpkins. The table runner would be fast and the pumpkins are adorable!

  15. Kathy E.

I wish I had just a smidgeon of your creativity in making a lovely table setting! My mind goes blank when trying to make it pretty.
I found a new banner that I’ll make for Valentine’s Day at AllPeopleQuilt called
Hearts-on-a-String Banner. They have lots (lots!!!) of ideas to inspire me!

I love the Maple Star table topper, but I also liked the pumpkin tea towels appliqué as well as the fall leaves napkins. I’ve never tried embellishing napkins or tea towels and ai think I’d like to try that. I really need an embroidery machine.

  17. June Neigum

I could have stayed on that site for hours. I enjoyed the podcast about overcoming your inner critic. We all need to check out the test to find our creativity. What an enlightening session.

  18. Betsy Pompi

I loved the pumpkin tea towels and copied the pattern. The idea of a random act of quilty kindness really struck me and I would like to try to do that with my family this year. I lost my husband a year ago April and I am just getting myself out of the funk that caused. I credit my son and DIL for being instrumental in helping that happen and I need to tell them that.

  19. Joan Sheppard

Love the Halloween Plates! – Okay I love it all! Always a delight and inspiration to see how you put this altogether! Thanks

    Your tablescapes are beautiful!

At All People Quilt, their tip on cleaning a rotary cutter is one of the best I’ve seen. I wish Quilts and More was available by subscription. I have to go 15 miles to get to a store that sells it.

Thanks for all you’ve done to make Autumn Jubilee fun, exciting and worthwhile!

  21. You sure have a knack for putting together beautiful tablescapes. I think that was the first thing that impressed me MANY years ago when I started reading your blog! I thought I had the Maple Star topper saved but I didn’t. I found the tutorial but not a pdf. I have downloaded several free quilt patterns from the APQ site, it’s great! Thanks for another great post. You NEVER disappoint….blessings from WV. Our beautiful foliage has disappeared—only a few reds from oaks and yellows from hickories…the rest have fallen.

    1. Thank you, Carole, for taking time to share the information as to the pdf….I learned something…lol….I did not know what that “broken page” icon was….now I do. Thanks so much…it’s downloaded and saved.

  22. Doris Ringler

I loved the ideas of using sewing supplies to decorate pumpkins, especially since my grandson will not be able to carve yet ( he just turned 1). Also a great way to use up some scrap supplies.

  23. Donna F.

I found the Blast from the Past mystery quilt sampler. Also found lots of autumn projects and decorating ideas. There is no shortage of good content on the website.

  24. lee

I love how you put together a tablescape! Every touch is just perfect! I would like to make some pillows as gifts this holiday season, so I love the peppermint pillow!

  25. Susan N.

I always enjoy other people’s tablescapes. I don’t have the room to store or the means to have so much variety. I a lot of the Fall quilts, but the Fall Mug Rugs caught my eye as a cute, quick quilty gift.

  26. ToniAnne Potter

I LOVE your Halloween plates! Where did you find them, they’re perfect? Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. All People Quilt is a great website, I get their emails all the time. You can get lost on their site. I just found a quilt pattern called “Pinwheels and Pumpkin Seeds”, I downloaded.

  27. Linda Clark

I like the ideas for decorating pumpkins without carving them. That’s too messy!
I was given a Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook in 1960 for a wedding gift. The cover is just like the new one, except it is very worn. How neat that they use the same pattern. I bet the recipes are very different too!

  28. Laura Riley

In the past I have found many quilt patterns and ideas on the All People Quilt site. So today I did some browsing in their gift ideas section. I discovered a video on how to make a small thread catcher out of scraps. That gives me an idea of a gift to make for my quilting friends.

  29. Sandi Scarlett

I always enjoy seeing your table settings! You have so many dishes! I love the Fall Favorite Quilt on the All People Quilt website.

  30. Barb K

I found several quilts I would like to make in the Halloween Quilts section including a “Haunted House Table Topper”.

  31. Margaret Nelson

In a binding video, I noticed that she chose to use a 45° ruler to Mark the ends that matched. I had never thought about that and I usually just wing it.

  32. Lisa England

Cinnamon Swirl is beautiful! The description says “Rectangular blocks and Pinwheel sashing squares put a spin on traditional Irish Chain blocks.” So simple but so pretty!

  33. Martha Franks

Although I am not a quilter, I love your warm, beautiful site. Lots of good photos, decorative ideas and recipes. I look forward to each posting. Thank you for an uplifting morning!
