The local Meals on Wheels foundation is having a silent auction this week for a fundraiser called Festival of Wreaths. They published a request for wreaths in a local magazine, and I just happened to see it. You know me, any excuse to get out the glue gun! So out came the Christmas stuff and a new grapevine wreath.
Setting the grapevine wreath at an angle makes it easier to place the elements.
I wanted a very large bow this time, so I made a double one. I showed how to make a basic bow HERE, and for the double bow I made a second bow without the center loop and all wide loops in the same manner.
Placing the basic bow on top of the larger base creates a double size. This is easier to make than one huge bow to hold and tie.
Gluing the streamers down, I offset the bow placement to one side, about 11-o’clock position. I made them long enough to ripple over the wreath, and spot glued the ends down.
For a little extra pizazz, I glued some red tulle loops under the bow area, then began filling the sides with greenery and other elements.
The bow base was glued on top of the tulle.
Then the top bow section is added to complete the bow.
Greenery and pine cones are glued to either side of the bow. The white berries add a bit of lightness to the wreath. I use odd numbers of elements on each side of the bow – 3 white berry sprays, three pine cones.
Three clumps of red berries and additional holly leaves fill in the spaces.
A tie-wrap is used for a hanger, it is flexible and strong, and can be put over a nail or a wreath hanger.
I hung it up on the wall for a final picture.
I was having so much fun that I made a second one that is more winter in feel with snowflakes. This one is inspired by the wire edge ribbon that I used for the bow. There are some plain silver streamers under the snowflake blue and silver.
I wrapped blue ribbon around the small wreath, added the bow and streamers along with some greenery and pine cones.
It needed something more, so I added five snowflakes, three on the left side, one on the bow and one low on a streamer.
The snowflakes are paper cutouts with glitter for shine, just glued into place. Now the wreath has a winter feel that can be enjoyed through the next few months.
DH and I delivered them to the Council on Aging office in plenty of time. The wreaths are being displayed on the office doors, so bidders will walk down the hallway to see the offerings. Several wreaths were already on display like this seaside inspired one.
This one with greenery and cotton bolls could be used anytime of year.
This one was Christmas themed, full and large.
Another one had a springtime look.
This one was a hoot, an elf has apparently crashed into it!
The auction will also have some table decorations available for bidding.
Mine was hung on a door for bidding. One of my blog cards is hanging on it, and can be snipped off by the high bidder.
The Festival of Wreaths is open for bids at the Council on Aging office at 105 King Creek in Hendersonville on Thursday November 30th from 3 pm to 6 pm if you are local. Proceeds will go to providing support for the Meals on Wheels program for our local homebound elderly. Put it on your calendar for Thursday if you can, help support this wonderful program, and score a great home decoration for the holidays.

Wow….just wow!
Gorgeous, and a great idea. In my small town in Oregon the hospital guild held a Festival of Trees, and local groups put in trees that were judged as a contest, and then bid on by local businesses. Way out of the reach of the rest of us! but raised a lot of money for the hospital charities and then were displayed in local businesses. The wreaths are way more accessible to anyone who wants to give!
And of course, you did a lovely job. I am headed out for greenery this week from the local lots, I do a swag for the front door and a centerpiece that smells good!

Hello Carole; Both of your Wreaths are Beautiful! I think it is so fabulous that you make sure and donate to these organizations that ask for it or that you know about to help in your community. It is something for you to be very proud of yourself for! We may live hundreds of miles apart, Carole, but I know that I have had to use a couple of Charities when Dawn and I were just starting out all alone and each donation no matter where I applaud and also always try and support in any way that I can! So Thank You for sharing and doing all year round!! I know a woman who is helping at the Meals on Wheels here since she retired, I must ask her if they do any thing as this. Have a great day!
What a wonderful idea for fund raising, your wreaths are beautiful, the ones already hanging are lovely too. I sometimes make a wreath and include gum tree leaves and nuts with ribbon and bows for the front door.
I don’t have a wreath. I keep thinking about the tutorial you did last year and how I should make one. I have all kinds of other things that hang on my door, and there actually is a wreath with a harvest elf in it for November, but not a regular wreath. Both of these are beautiful, as always. That elf wreath is funny!

Lovely wreaths Carole! I made a wreath when we were first married with copper gingerbread men and cross stitch in the middle, but it needs a face lift! Now I have a swag that we hang on the door and once I replace the ribbon, we’ll hang the gingerbread wreath above the mantel.
I am going to start calling you “Jack”……..as you seem to be a “Jack of all trades!” Cooking, quilting, decorating, gardening,…….is there anything you can’t do? LOL
I change the wreaths on our side entrance door and front door seasonally. LOVE all these wreaths….what a great idea for a fund raiser!!

Hello Carole, Lovely wreath of blue ribbon snowflakes and pine cones. My theme is snowmen, snowflakes and the blue, silver and white colors. Already have a lot of inspiration from this. Bought some mini snowflake garland for a small tree a few years back so will use those and some of my Jim Shore snowmen figurines and attach them onto the wreath rather than glue them, don’t want to destroy their value. Thanks for the idea of using things I already have. Have been going thru some of my decoration I haven’t used these past years and donating them to the thrift stores. I made a lot of Victorian ornaments over the years and paid a lot of money for the kits and soon learned to look at them and copy them buying my own sequins, pearls etc. and making my own designs as well. Have a lot of beautiful ornaments to part with but as time goes by we have to down size and that time is here now. Have lots pictures to enjoy of them. Phyllis
