Spring and early summer in the mountains is a perfect time to have an outdoor party. Patriotic holidays dominate the summer months, so I decided to have a few friends over for a ladies cookout with a patriotic theme. It was lovely to spend the day with friends, in an easy manner, just chatting and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Of course, fun entertaining starts with a pretty tablescape. This one has a bit of whimsy in the setting. I started with white placemats on the veranda table.
I rolled the plastic knife, fork and spoon into the star napkin, then tied them with a blue ribbon.
Aren’t these star plates cute? They are plastic and I got them at a local dollar store.
White plate on a white mat needed some color, so I opened up a star napkin and placed it between the plate and mat. I made little place cards too, with a quilting block on the left, and the back side has a cute saying “In the crazy quilt of life, I’m glad you’re in my block of friends.”
The centerpiece was a white impatiens planted in a terra cotta planter with the star sprays on each side. I left lots of room for food on the table. I like to use individual salt and pepper shakers at each setting too, so no one has to ask for them.
The menu was pure outdoor cookout. Side dishes brought by guests. I should have taken pictures of the food! Everything was just yummy!
Grilled Hot Dogs
with Chili, Cheese, Onion,
and all the usual condiments
Strawberry Pretzel Jello Salad
Ice Cream Sandwiches
We ate and talked for way past the time I thought we would. Everyone was having too much fun to go home. I had a wonderful day, enjoying time with friends, a gorgeous day in the low 70s with a gentle breeze, and just relaxing. I’ll be doing this again soon! I thought you would like to see the long view of the veranda.
Are you planning a cookout soon?
